On Tuesday 1 October the CTC History Society were hosts to Professor Ronald Hutton of the University of Bristol, who gave us an electrifying lecture on ‘The Great Witch Hunt’ in early modern Europe and related it  to disturbingly similar practices elsewhere in the modern world.  An audience of students and staff,  historians and non-historians, responded with rapt attention and probing questions.  Afterwards Professor Hutton, who said that Bristol University would look very favourably upon applicants from CTC, wrote to Dr Oliphant:  “I felt made very warmly welcome, by your students as well as yourself, and thought the questions very interesting”.
