Mr Darren Wilkins
Head of Economics and Accounting
BSc (Econ) Hons (LSE, London), PGCE (Institute of Education, London)
Mr Wilkins joined Cambridge Tutors College after teaching at a number of prestigious schools in the London/Surrey area. He is our Head of Economics and Accounting, an EPQ Mentor but is also responsible for Departmental Oxbridge Preparation.
Mr Wilkins attended The London School of Economics where he studied Economics. He graduated with a BSc (Econ), with honours, before moving on to a PGCE from The Institute of Education, London. During his time at University Mr Wilkins was also an Associate of the London College of Music and then a Fellow of the London College of music for the Piano and Flute respectively.
After completion of his PGCE, Mr Wilkins began teaching at Wilsons School, Surrey. While at this highly historic institution, he began honing his teaching skills and gaining valuable teaching experience. He then moved to Old Palace School of John Whitgift where he taught for 4 years before joining CTC London.
Alongside his teaching at CTC London, Mr. Wilkins is responsible for a number of extracurricular activities such as running the College Choir and The Young Enterprise Scheme. Both of which have thrived since Mr. Wilkins joining us, with the choir giving regular lunchtime concerts and a team from CTC London making it through to the South London finals in 2016. He also organises and prepares students for both the Royal Economics Society essay writing and The Bank of England’s Target 2.0 competitions.
Outside of teaching, Mr Wilkins is a keen musician and has played the piano, flute and violin since his childhood. He is currently the Assistant Director of Music at the Croydon Male Voice Choir and sings in a small SATC chorus called “Just Music”. He is also interested in horticulture and enjoys going to the opera – with Puccini being one of his favourite composers.
“The opportunity to engage with such a diverse international cohort of students has been a truly wonderful experience. I’ve loved working with a small group of motivated and friendly students that are the hallmark of CTC London and celebrating the students’ success as they proceed onwards on their academic journeys.”
