Student Committee

The Student Committee represents the students at CTC. It is comprised of two staff representatives and six students. The positions on the Committee are, President, Vice President, Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Social Secretary, Sports Secretary and one student who represents our association with the National Union of Students.

Student elections are held twice a year and students stay on the Committee for around six months. Having two elections a year gives the opportunity for more students to gain a place on the Committee, for which there is always strong competition. During the election process candidates may give a short talk as to why they deserve a place on the Committee and there have been some outstanding campaigns and student speeches.

The Student Committee contributes greatly to enriching the life of the students outside their academic studies. It meets once a week to create, plan and organise social events that the College runs each year. Each member has the chance to develop some very useful skills which will be used in later life. For example they will learn to chair a meeting, take minutes, design posters to advertise the events and most importantly work together as a team. We have some regular events such as the “Meet and Greet” event when students first come to the College, International Evening (an evening when the College comes together to celebrate all our different cultural identities), Informal Concerts, and the Summer Ball.

In addition, the Student Committee often canvasses student opinion on a range of issues. As a result of a recent discussion on food provision, a new Committee was formed called the “Student Food Council” which now meets once a term.

The Student Committee is an active, energetic and significant part of the life of CTC students.

Again, please accept my immense gratitude for you and the college.”

“There is a very positive and supportive ethos in the college which supports academic learning, enrichment and development. Tutors work with a great deal of professional autonomy and the students are hardworking, mature and respectful. There is a fascinating mix amongst the cohort of home-based and international students, and the relations between staff and students are harmonious.”
